I attach a climbing carabiner to both ends of the Painter. It makes attaching the proximal end to the carry-handle and the distal end to a convenient tree.

I also put a bottle bag on my deck and store my painter inside that bag to keep it safe.

Helpful material. Thank you. But terrible audio quality. Having a wireless microphone on your shirt collar with a windscreen would make a big difference.

What knot did you use to connect the painter line to the grab loop? I was planning on just using a bow line is there a preferred/better knot for this application?

"Which is faster? A narrow boat or a fast boat." 🤔 I'm no boat scientist, but I'm gunna guess a fast boat. 😁

Wow, I was way overcomplicating and overthinking this... Been trying to figure out how to rig this up, and reading tutorials on it made it seem like there was far more work necessary and setme on the path of thinking past the simple solution. I was extremely surprised on my first hammock camping trip, at how frigid it could get simply from hanging in the air. I'd slept on the ground with nothing but a tarp and a couple blankets in 35 degree F weather in my younger days, and never would have thought I'd be cutting a camping trip short due to being too cold in temps in the upper fifties, but it definitely happened... The underquilt is a must for me! And I'll be keeping a couple of space blankets handy to layer in between underquilt and hammock, as well.

Great insight! What bottom would you want in a lake that turns somewhat choppy with light swells?

why can't u combine the 4 main styles esp on smaller boats to get best of both 1 style right & 1 style left the same way the bow & middle section can b diff from aft. Again on a small lake type boat hving flat bottom is key but u get on 1 side of a horse.

Awesome video. Loved the emphasis on trade-offs. Made me think of the “tank dilemma.” More armor, less speed. Less armor, more speed. Use of diagrams was very helpful. One thing I’d suggest: label hull designs ✌🏻

For me, that is not the basics. The basic characteristic of a boat is the shape of the bottom, and without grabbing it by the end, flipping it over and shooting the video down the line of the bottom and curve just below the water line, ...I've got no idea what you have there. Of course the other stuff is important, but is secondary to the bottom shape which more significantly determines how easily it moves through the water, turns and feels when healed. I've heard a lot about the Old Town Tripper and was hoping to see the lines of the bottom. Of course the beam and length have big affects on these characteristics as well, but these stats are easily found, and often they vary, as in a line up of tripper, tripper long, tripper wide or slim, where in they will all have, "the basic design implementation" of a certain shape of bottom.

How about a flat bottom with a keel for tracking? I’m fishing is my main interest . Mostly in small lakes and rivers. Hopefully I just bought the right 14 foot lighter canoe with a keel . Just putting skid plates on now. Haven’t really had much of a chance to try it out . And also plan on using a kayak paddle in the wind. What are your thoughts.🇨🇦👍 Thanks so much. Cheers.

Hi, I’m an absolute amateur and a very recent canoe outfitter. However, I disagree with a few things you’ve done. 1. Thicker rope for your bow and stern loops- won’t pull through. 2. Smaller bow and stern loops- they’ll snag something eventually. 3. Buy some good rope. It won’t degrade in the sun, and it’ll be sealed already instead of horrifically fluffy. 4. 2 metres of painter is relatively useless. Why limit it to a man’s length? What’s it used for? Why not have a bit more to be more versatile? Happy to be proven wrong or hear your reasons! Ray Goodwin’s guidance is great on outfitting a boat.

Put the hole for the grab handle line lower and you have water coming in. The boat already has a molded in carry handle. Not really a good idea to drill holes in thevboat like that. I would suggest sealing those holes up and gedttng a proper now loop ring.
